PlayWay S.A., is really pumping out a bunch of weird, unique, off-the-cuff style games that most other companies would never touch with a ten foot pole. Reasonably so, given that most large publishers probably don’t see any sort of profits in games about being a drug dealer, or a cross-country motorcyclist, or a ship graveyard disassembler. PlayWay, however, does see an opportunity to cash in on a market that isn’t being tapped, which is why they’ve been pursuing a lot of these bizarre simulation games, one of which includes Games Incubator’s Ship Graveyard Simulator.
The gist is pretty straightforward. You visit the largest ship graveyard in the world looking to make some bucks on usable scrap metal and valuable parts.
You’ll scour through more than 12 square kilometers of wrecked ships as you attempt to scavenge the goods and avoid dying while doing so.
Much like the other sim-based games from PlayWay, the gameplay is contextual based, meaning you don’t get to move around freely in a sandbox environment and dilly around. Instead you select where you go and what you do.
You can traverse through the very bowels of the ship to acquire rare or highly sough after materials, but also doing so at the risk of getting trapped, locked, or triggering a hazard while doing so.
The core of the game revolves around collecting material, trading goods, and making some dosh along the way.
I don’t know if there’s anything more to the game, but hopefully there’s a greater sense of achievement than just selling some scrap metal for money.
I suppose we’ll find out what else they have in store for the game as the release draws closer. I just hope there’s a little more to the game than just breaking stuff off of dilapidated ships and selling them. I mean, what do you use the money for? Can you even buy stuff?
Anyway, you can wishlist or follow the game by visiting the Steam store page.
