The Pope: Power And Sin Announced With A Provocative Teaser Trailer

PlayWay has been publishing some bizarre games that really step outside the boundaries of the norm. While they absolutely dropped the ball with Agony, they have been putting their weight behind unique games like Drug Dealer Simulator, Junkyard Simulator and I Am Jesus Christ. Their latest game is called The Pope: Power & Sin, and it’s a real trip.

It’s a far-cry from one of their other upcoming games, American Motorcycle Simulator, which is about driving around, getting into bar fights, and visiting strip clubs, The Pope: Power & Sin is about managing the affairs of the Vatican.

The trailer is quite provocative, starting with the assassination of Pope Innocent VIII, with Pope Alexander VI taking on the Papacy in 1492.

It’s quite the retelling of how Innocent VIII died, but it’s followed by a series of optional management and diplomacy mandates you can make throughout the game.

The game sees you attempting to convene with highest members of the church, as you attempt to vie for peace or prolong division for the sake of retaining wealth or ascertaining the detriment of your rivals and challengers for power.

The game also doesn’t shy away from the Pope’s ability to engage in some of the more uncouth traditions of the Papal.

While the trailer starts with some racy material, it actually looks like this is one of those games where you can dive into the moral ambiguity of ruling, making decrees, and altering policies that will shape the world around you, all while engaging in or defying the scandals that defined Alexander VI’s papacy.

It’s not groundbreaking stuff, but it is presented in an intriguing way and the visuals are certainly on-point.

There’s no release date yet for The Pope: Power & Sin, but the game is set to release at some point in 2020. You can wishlist or follow The Pope: Power & Sin by visiting the Steam store page.
