Thunder Rally, Multiplayer Destruction Derby Game Enters Early Access On Steam

Typical Entertainment announced that they have a brand new top-down destruction derby game available on Steam via Early Access called Thunder Rally. The indie-made title is filled to the brim with explosions, crashes, and over-the-top physics-effects, primed and ready for your indulgence.

The game is available over on the Steam store for just $12.99.

The game’s announcement was accompanied by an Early Access trailer, and the game is actually a heck of a lot more cool than I thought it would be.

Imagine the original two GTA games with physics-based arena gags and lots of crashes and tons of explosions.

you can check out the trailer below.

The top-down destruction derby game sees players selecting from one of seven different car types, battling across 40 different levels, and making use of 13 different power-ups to change the destructive flavor of the gameplay.

While Thunder Rally is designed around eight-player multiplayer action, it can also be played with AI bots to compensate for those of you who don’t have any friends online.

The real sweet spot for the game, however, is the ability to get out of your car and steal an opponent’s car, just like Grand Theft Auto, or one of my all-time favorite battle racing games, Rocket Jockey.

After your car gets destroyed you can hoof it on foot and still fight against your opponents, but you’re very easily susceptible to a violent death involving your skin being smeared across the hood of an opponent’s vehicle, while their bumper wears your face.

However, even dying doesn’t put you out of the action for long. You’ll be able to influence the action from the side-lines by chucking bombs at opponents who are still alive, much like the old-school Bomberman games.

This game looks like a ton of mindless fun when played in short spurts. I also wonder if they have plans on making a Nintendo Switch version?

The Early Access run is expected to last for at least six months. You can either follow the development or wishlist the game by visiting the Steam store page, or you can pick up an Early Access copy if you’re compelled to do so.
