Train to Busan was a pretty cool survival-horror flick. It was about a father who didn’t have time for his daughter attempting to reconnect with her during a zombie outbreak. It might sound cheesy but it was actually a pretty cool film that didn’t pull any punches and certainly managed to find itself among the hall of fame of zombie films. Quite naturally the studios decided to cash in on its popularity and focus on a sequel titled Peninsula, which is set in the Train to Busan universe, and it takes place four years after the events of the original film.
The trailer doesn’t really do much to explain what’s really going on as far as characterizations are concerned, but we do get a ton of action sequences and a lot of scenes of zombies being ravenous.
Basically, South Korea has turned into an apocalyptic war zone, and survival has become difficult for everyone. You can check out the trailer below courtesy of Movie Trailers Source.
I don’t really know what the general plot of the film is, but apparently there are survival pits filled with prisoners who are forced to fight against hordes of zombies for entertainment, and it looks like some kind of military group is trying to either escape from somewhere or to somewhere. The trailer doesn’t make it all that clear.
Overall, I don’t really know where the film is going but it looks like a mix of Escape from New York, Land of the Dead, and some weird mix of Fast & Furious and the Resident Evil movies.
The director, Sang-ho Yeon, definitely knows his way around the zombie genre, both with live-action and animated films.
I just hope that Peninsula doesn’t suffer from the sequel-effect, where it’s bigger, more expensive, and more boisterous than the previous film but far less satisfying and a lot more dumbed down.
I can’t say much right now because the trailer did just enough to pique interests but I still don’t really know what the film is about other than people trying to survive in a post-zombie Seoul.
They don’t have a U.S., release date for the film but it’s supposedly coming soon. According to the IMDB page it’s scheduled to release in August of 2020.
