West Of Dead Open Beta Goes Live For Xbox One, Steam

Swedish publisher Raw Fury announced that the isometric, purgatory-themed Western, West of Dead, is currently in open beta on Steam and Xbox One. You can participate in the beta right now, for free, by simply downloading the client for Microsoft’s console or through the Steam client on PC.

If you have a decent enough rig that meets the minimum requirements, head to the Steam store and click on the big green “Play Game” button to begin installing the beta client.

If you have an Xbox One, head on over to the Microsoft Store and click on the big blue button that says “Get”.

You’ll be able to play-test the cel-shaded shooter following a vigilante reaping souls in the afterlife.

The game follows William Mason, voiced by Ron Perlman, who finds himself fighting against a different kind of evil in Purgatory, Wyoming back in 1888. With a flaming school and a revolver full of lead, you’ll lead Mason through a grim-dark depiction of the great plains state.

Visually the game reminds me a little bit of the monochromatic action hack-and-slash title from PlatinumGames for the Wii called MadWorld.

If the trailer music for West of Dead also caught your fancy, the song “Run” from Cat & The Stoic is currently available for download over on the Spotify album page.

This looks like a game worth playing, and developer Upstream Arcade appears to have put some time and effort into making the twin-stick shooter come across as a fun-filled romp, but you might want to play it for yourself ahead of its official release to see for sure.

Ron Perlman is a raging Lefty on Twitter (and probably compensating for some dark secrets kept in the closet of his mind) and I doubt he would sign on to voice a character in a non-pozzed game. But I could be wrong. Again, you’ll need to play it to see for yourself if it’s littered with Left-wing agitprop or not.

Anyway, the full version of West of Dead is scheduled to drop later into 2020 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and on Steam for PC.
