Devolver Digital announced that the physics-based, mayhem-induced, multiplayer challenge game, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, will make its way toward PC and the PlayStation 4 this summer.
Mediatonic’s crazy, colorful, multiplayer, obstacle-based racing game looks insane. The concept stems from creating your own character, known as a Fall Guy, and after outfitting them – not unlike Spire Interactive’s Humble Rumble or Bone Loaf’s Gang Beasts – you’re put through the task of attempting to complete challenge-based obstacle courses in knockout style rounds until there’s only one winner remaining.
The gameplay and the aesthetic look completely ridiculous and like it would be a ton of fun. You can check it out below with the latest trailer for the game.
The concept comes from a combination of things, but mostly an old British TV show called It’s A Knockout, where people were dressed up in ridiculous outfits or costumes and were tasked with completing objectives that seemed about impossible to complete given the absurd attire they were forced to don.
This is the general concept they used to construct Fall Guys, and you can very readily see how it’s been implemented into the actual execution of the gameplay.
This looks like a classic party game of sorts that would have been moderately popular during the height of the PS2 era.
The aesthetic is obviously similar to other Japanese games such as Katamri Damacy.
The slapstick nature of the obstacles and ridiculously over-the-top physics helps keep the competitive edge lighthearted and comical.
