Finnish developers Redhill Games announced that they have a brand new 3-vs-3-vs-3 shooter in the works called Nine To Five. It’s a PMC-themed shooter where three teams are tasked with completing objectives within specially designed maps while facing off against two other teams. Depending on how the objectives are completed in a previous round will determine what happens in the next round. The game’s alpha testing is set to get underway on June 4th.
Redhill Games CEO Matias Myllyrinne explained in the press release what the hook for the game is, saying…
“We believe shooters can be smarter — and smarter can be more fun. We want teamwork to triumph over brute force and reflexes, giving players a refined shooting experience with the freedom to customize your game plan as you see fit. You can expect plenty of rough edges and thrilling surprises in the alpha, and we’ll be engaging closely with the community for your feedback on day one.”
I don’t know how well yet another multiplayer first-person shooter will do in today’s market, but you can check out the actual gameplay for yourself to see if it’s something that appeals to you.
Gameplay wise it reminds me a lot of the old Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon games, where the maps were large and spacious and players had to use a lot of tactics and teamwork in order to complete objectives.
It would have been even cooler if its was a nine-player co-op game and you had to complete objectives via a campaign mode against AI opponents, but that’s probably asking for too much in today’s creatively stolid environment.
I do like, however, that there are some breakable objects, the ability to shoot through walls, and that the weapon selection appears to be more varied and unique than yet another game featuring 50 variations of the M4 and AR rifles.
Redhill has plans on taking user feedback and advancing and modifying the game based on said feedback, and you’ll be able to participate in the game’s playable alpha soon enough starting June 4th.
