Task Force Admiral, World War II Naval War-Sim Heading To Steam

Microprose is risen from the grave as a publisher intent on filling the niche genres of PC gaming that have gone ignored or forlorn by most of the other big publishing players in the gaming industry. One of the first orders of business is to bring Drydock Dreams Games’ Task Force Admiral to PC via Steam… soon.

The first volume of the game will be a single-player experience themed around the Pacific War carrier task force on the U.S., side of the equation. As the commander you’ll have to seek out and destroy enemy naval vessels, while also making use of various weapons and aerial craft to scout, engage, and destroy the enemy.

You can see what Task Force Admiral is like with the debut trailer below, courtesy of Worth Playing.

The game looks like a blast.

Even though the trailer focused more on the aerial combat rather than navy strategies, it looks like it could be a nice throwback to a forgotten style of gaming.

The 3D strategy war-sim will be a return to form for Microprose, bringing back a long, lost sub-genre of strategy games that mostly died out after the 90s were done and over with.

It doesn’t look photorealistic and it doesn’t have to. You can see clearly see the planes, you can easily make out the different naval craft, and there’s a day and night cycle to help bring the action to life under various kind of weather and lighting conditions.

I’m really hoping that the gameplay is as solid as it looks in the trailer above.

Not every AA game needs to compete with the AAA juggernauts to be compelling and fun, and it looks like Microprose and Drydock Dream Games understand that.

You’ll have full control over the action as you uncover the enemy’s tactics and machinations through the fog of war, using bird’s eye perspective or unit-tracking camera angles to keep keen on everything that happens across the battlescape.

There will be 95 different ship classes featured in the game and 42 different aircraft for you to command or shoot down.

Also, unlike Battlefield V, Drydock Dream Games is promising a realistic and historically authentic World War II experience. From the decals and liveries on the fuselage of the planes to the officer and pilot ranks, the game will attempt to revive the World War II Pacific theater as accurate as possible.

There’s a ton of info to glean over on the Steam store page or the official website, so be sure to check it out or wishlist the game leading up to its highly anticipated release.
