The Last Of Us: Part 2 Caused “Philosophical” Arguments Within Naughty Dog Over Certain Events

The Last of Us: Part 2 is the upcoming works of Sony and Naughty Dog, and will release for PS4 on June 19th, 2020. In the meantime, the former and the latter have created an “Inside the Story” series that offers gamers and fans alike an early look at the forthcoming title, which the first episode depicts Naughty Dog’s vice president Neil Druckmann talking about the sequel’s divisiveness.

The next installment in The Last of Us series is only a month away, but while we wait, Sony and Naughty Dog invite the curious “to take a look inside the story” of the second part.

In addition to the above, folks can hear from the team at Naughty Dog as they discuss how they approached developing the narrative of the sequel while sharing “new insights” about the events and themes of “Ellie’s story.”

For those of you that may have missed out on some tidbits in the above video, there’s no need to worry. According to the first “Inside the Story” episode, Druckmann talks about how the studio had disagreements and philosophical arguments on some of the story elements in the game.

These arguments led Druckmann to believe that the sequel is more divisive than the first game. With that said, you can read Druckmann’s thoughts on making the sequel and then some right here:

“There’s always the fear that when you made something great and you’re gonna go back to it, you’re gonna mess it up. You’re gonna mess what made it so special. The test for us was can we come up with a story that can, one, stand on its own and be meaningful and have weight, the same kind of feeling we had when we came upon the story for the first one. But also now because it’s part two, it has to be additive. It has to take the first one into consideration that if you played both, then you get a bigger narrative.”

Druckmann continues:

“I know even within the studio we’ve had a lot of, like, philosophical arguments about some of the events and what happens in the game, and I’m thinking this one might be more divisive than the first game in a very kind of exciting way that I think it raises those interesting, philosophical questions and asks the players to interpret some of the material that’s there and see where they stand on those questions.”

last but not least, The Last of Us: Part 2 will release worldwide for PS4 on June 19th, 2020
