Dying Light: Hellraid Goes Live July 23rd For PC, PS4, Xbox One

Techland announced that the latest update to the 2015 first-person zombie-parkour game, Dying Light, will release for home consoles and PC starting July 23rd. The DLC is called Hellraid and it’s actually a rather big nod to Techland’s cancelled first-person, medieval hack-and-slash game of the same name.

The announcement for the DLC release date was accompanied by a rather brisk 47 second trailer, which goes through the basic task of showcasing some of the new enemies you’ll be fighting, some of the new locations you’ll be visiting, and some of the weapons you’ll be using.

It’s like a partial conversion mod packaged as an in-game arcade title you can play for some kicks and giggles.

The trailer may be short, but the gist of the content refers to Techland’s earlier work, Hellraid, which was cancelled some time ago.

The developers wanted to finish it, but finances and resources just didn’t permit them to do so.

The game was essentially a first-person, hack-and-slash, physics-based action-RPG.

It was focused on intense, visceral battles that were fairly fast-paced and frequently forced players to assess their tactics and environment to maximize their character’s potential for survival.

The game reminded me of a new-age version of Hexen or the first Heretic.

Well, since they won’t be able to release a full version of Hellraid they will just package it into Dying Light. You’ll still be able to make use of Dying Light’s parkour and traversal systems, as well as the melee combat, only you’ll be fighting against some of the enemies from Techland’s medieval action game, and using some of the weapons. Unfortunately you will not be able to make use of Hellraid’s original environmental deconstruction, which is a real shame, but sometimes you can’t win ’em all.

As mentioned at the top of the article, you can look for the DLC to arrive July 23rd on PS4, Xbox One, and on Steam for PC.
