Game Gear Micro Launches In Japan October 6th, 2020

Sega announced that the new Game Gear Micro is set to launch in Japan on October 6th, 2020 for ¥4,980 or around $46 in USD. The portable gamiung device will come in four different colors, with each color coming equipped with four different games.

As reported by Geek Culture, there’s a landing site over on the official Sega website promoting the Game Gear Micro with a quick yet very informative trailer.

The trailer reveals that the blue Game Gear Micro comes with Sonic & Tails, Gunstar Heroes, Sylvanvale and Baku Baku. The yellow edition of the Game Gear Micro comes with a series of Shining Force games, including Shining Force, Shining Force II and Shining Force: Final Conflict.

The red version of the Game Gear Micro features Last Bible, Last Bible: Special, Columns, The GG: Shinobi.

Last but not least is the original black-colored Game Gear Micro, which features the original Sonic: The Hedgehog, OutRun, Royal Stone and Puyo Puyo 2.

Based on the amount of gameplay you could get out of each game that comes with the colored handheld, I would say that the yellow Shining Force version is probably the way to go, since JRPGs usually offer you between 15 and 40 hours of play.

However, replay-wise the original black Game Gear Micro might be the way to go since you can always replay Sonic The Hedgehog and OutRun ad infinitum.

Anyway, I don’t really see this as being much a must-buy unless you don’t already have a modded Switch and had a itch for some handheld nostalgia.

They didn’t reveal when (or if) the Game Gear Micro will make its way Stateside or across the pond and into Europe, but it’s very likely that it will. You’ll just have to stay tuned for more info on the Western release.
