Netflix has been cleaning their catalog of movies, shows, and media material featured on the platform that either they or a select audience of Social Justice curators have deemed “inappropriate” or “problematic” for [current year]. One such show that was caught in the crossfire of censorship is the FX original, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, which had an episode banned from the Left-wing streaming service for containing a “blackface” joke.
Digital Spy is reporting that in season 6, episode 9, titled “Dee Reynolds: Shaping America’s Youth”, there were scenes that Netflix deemed inappropriate and thus removed the episode from their platform on June 11th, 2020.
There’s a recap of the episode that originally aired back in 2010 available over on the A/V Club. Assuming you were interested in finding out what exactly made it a prime target for censorship. But for those of you who don’t want to click through the link, basically Mac, played by Rob McElhenney, dons makeup to look like Roger Murtaugh from the Lethal Weapon series. The show satirizes a potential Lethal Weapon 5.
I’m more surprised they didn’t axe season 9, episode 9 from the line-up, too, since the show spoofed Lethal Weapon 6, and they had Mac and Deandra made up to look like Murtaugh and his wife. The cast even joked about it back in 2015 on Conan’s talk show, which just goes to show that over the course of five years you can’t even satirize black people anymore.
Well, now that the purge is underway of any content that offends the Intersectional Inquisition, don’t expect the censorship or bans to let up. In fact, expect more shows, more episodes and more content to get the axe.
In any case, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia now joins other shows such as The League of Gentlemen, Little Britain and The Mighty Boosh on the increasingly growing list of shows and episodes banned from Netflix for offending the Regressive Left’s arbiters of media entertainment.
