Going back months Resident Evil 8 has been teased and rumored to be in development. Some rumors were short “it’ll piss off fans” and “it’ll be the most disturbing Resident Evil to date”. Other rumors offered more specific details surround the game’s name along with major plot points, enemies, and other assorted details.

During today’s PlayStation Livestream the debate whether the rumors were true or not was put to rest with the official unceremonious unveiling of Resident Evil: Village. Scheduled to release next year for the Playstation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC, no press statement or details were provided by the developer, but the trailer was able to confirm many of the rumors.

Let’s break down which of the rumors have been confirmed by the trailer.

Rumors That Were Confirmed

-The title is Resident Evil Village

-Set in a Mountainous Village

-Castle, caves, and forest locations confirmed in the trailer

-Spirituality plays a roll in the game’s story (as seen by symbols throughout the trailer)

-”Werewolves” are confirmed to be one of the primary enemies

-Ethan is the returning main character

-Umbrella (classic or Blue) plays a roll in the game’s narrative

-The witch that haunts Ethan throughout the game is seen in the trailer

-Chris kills Mia

-Chris’s character model looks closer to original games than it does 7s model

-The potential playable female character named Emily

-The Shotgun is acquired after a villager is killed by a werewolf

-Ganados like enemies confirmed

Rumors Not proven by the Trailer

(either false or just not shown)

-Chris only being seen flying off in a helicopter without Ethan knowing if he did or did not kill Mia (trailer clearly shows Chris putting multiple rounds into Mia before apologizing to Ethan for doing so debunking 4chan rumor that said the scene played out a different way)

-Blue Umbrella (likely there as the masked men, but not directly confirmed)

-Alex Wesker / Natalia as a minor villain

– The Connections involvement (Important to note the trailer does not confirm nor deny this. One particular antagonist that is said to be a high ranking member of The Connections is potentially seen in the trailer).

-Dog, knight, and licker-like enemies

-Alan R. (high ranking connections member that is rumored to be the main antagonist for the game. Potentially seen in the trailer as the main with the glasses, but is described as a count, so it is questionable if that is him.)
