Dragon Quest XI: S Definitive Edition Heading To Steam, Consoles Dec 4th

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes Of An Elusive Age S – Definitive Edition is making its way to PC, PS4, Xbox One, Windows 10 and as part of Game Pass starting December 4th, 2020 later this year. Specifically, the game will be available on Steam for PC, so those of you worried about Epic getting their CCP-tarred hands on it can put that worry to rest.

The announcement was made over on the official Dragon Quest XI website, where the list of platforms and the release date were reveled.

This comes three years after the game initially released in Japan for the PlayStation 4, and later for the Nintendo Switch, which received its own version built from the ground up.

It’s unfortunate that the reports indicate that the S version is the one that they’ll be using for PC, which is based on the Switch version, which actually has a lot of visual details removed in order to accommodate the hardware. But it also has new content that wasn’t featured in the original PS4 version, such as the additional character scenarios, the inclusion of the original soundtrack or a grand orchestral version of the game, and the ability to switch between the 2D and 3D graphics mode depending on which version you prefer best.

I imagine it would be quite the trip playing the game in the 16-bit mode but with the symphony orchestra soundtrack playing in the background.

In any case, if you didn’t want to support Sony and the PS4, and you don’t own a Nintendo Switch, you will be able to get the game on the Xbox One or Windows 10 through the Xbox Game Pass, or you can purchase the game separately for either platform. Alternatively you will also have the option to grab the game from the Steam store for PC as well.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of An Elusive Age S – Definitive Edition is due to drop on December 4th, 2020 later this year.
