There’s no denying that Hollywood is trying to scoop up whatever it can to turn into a movie. As of now, video games are the latest target, and with the recent Sonic movie getting a sequel and Monster Hunter gearing up to hit the silver screen, the next video game movie adaptation on Hollywood’s growing bucket list is the blue bomber.

That’s correct, a live-action film based on Capcom’s Mega Man will one day hit the big screen. However, thanks to publication site nintendolife.com, we learn that the directors’ plan on releasing “big news” related to this new movie sometime soon.

In addition to the above, directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman noted during a recent interview that Mattson Tomlin (who wrote the screenplay for the upcoming Batman movie starring Robert Pattinson) is helping out with the new Mega Man movie by penning the script.

With that said, Joost had the following to say about his involvement regarding the forthcoming blue bomber movie:

“We had such a great time working with Mattson on Project Power that we invited him in to help us out with Mega Man. We are super excited about it. I think we’re going to have some big news about it soon. I can’t say all that much right now, but it’s a project very near and dear to our hearts and we’re psyched.”

The website highlights Schulman saying that his “first Nintendo game” he ever played was Mega Man and that this particular “video game icon was an underdog hero.” With that said, Schulman also feels like this film needs to be done, and here’s why:

“Both of us [Joost] are deeply fascinated by robotics and the future of automation, for better and for worse. I think trying to combine that into one of our favorite historical video games is the ultimate challenge.”

Lastly, the site notes that Capcom wants this live-action Mega Man film to appeal to video game goers and action-movie fans alike, while “capturing the true spirit of a Hollywood blockbuster.”
