Certain parts of the Sonic fandom may be head-over-heels autistic, but other parts do right by the brand, sometimes even more-so than Sega. A good example of that is the team working on remaking and remastering the original Sonic 2006 game for the Xbox 360. They decided to use their autism for good and overhaul the broken Hedgehog Engine-powered 3D platformer for PC. For those of you who have been following the development of the remake you’re in for some good news because the latest iteration of the demo is currently available for download.
You can download the Sonic Project ’06 Demo 3 release from either: Mediafire or Google Drive
The demo is no laughing matter, though. You will need to download 5.39GB.
This basically confirms that this is a serious project, with a lot of new upgrades and updates to some of the old assets, bringing the 14-year-old game up to today’s standards.
You can check out the teaser trailer below to get an idea of what’s featured in the latest demo outing for the Sonic ’06 fan-made remake, courtesy of ChaosX.
The demo comes equipped with the full trial campaign for Sonic, along with a variety of playable stages, including… Wave Ocean, Dusty Desert, White Acropolis, Crisis City, Flame Core, Radical Train, Tropical Jungle, Kingdom Valley, Aquatic Base, and Tails’ Wave Ocean.
While Sega may not have a darn clue as to what to do with the blue hedgehog, I have to admit that the fanbase has done a terrific job with creating some awesome restoration mods, remakes, overhauls, and updates for some of the popular and lesser-known entries in the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise.
If you were curious about playing Sonic 2006 but didn’t want to bother with the Xbox 360 version, feel free to give the PC demo a try and see if it’s to your liking.
