Open Road and The Solution Entertainment Group’s Honest Thief from filmmaker Mark Williams doesn’t have the catchiest of names, nor does it have much of a marketing budget behind it, and with Hollywood getting woke fanatics and Twitter lunatics to turn against Liam Neeson like they did with Mel Gibson, it’s unlikely that this new action flick will garner much promotion among social media socialites. However, Honest Thief is hands-down a movie for men and it looks like a classic return to white-knuckle action for people who actually watch movies to be entertained and not indoctrinated.
Liam Neeson stars as a former Marine who specialized in demolitions, only to use those skills to rob banks across the country and stash away millions of dollars in the process.
After meeting a hot redheaded chick played by the seemingly ageless Kate Walsh, he decides to settle down, turn himself in, and give up his life of crime. However, some dirty FBI agents figure they can off the thief, take his cash and do in his girlfriend. In classic Neeson fashion, the arc goes from second chances to straight-up revenge.
As a forewarning, the trailer below from Movie Trailers Source is filled to the brim with spoilers, so if you want to avoid them then don’t watch the trailer.
This feels like a classic throwback to old-school action films made with the sensibilities of current-day audiences.
I’m getting some Next of Kin vibes along with a hint of Michael Mann’s incomparable character-driven thriller, Thief.
Literally, the biggest issue with this trailer is the fact that it spoils everything… literally, everything.
They could have cut an entire minute out of it and just left it focused on Neeson’s intentions to go straight and the two FBI agents’ willingness to steal all the money.
The action scenes look serviceable, and the plot seems interesting. Based on what they showcased there doesn’t appear to be any kind of feminist empowerment going on, I didn’t spot any kind of unnecessary “diversity”, and Neeson seems in full-on badass mode.
I approve.
Plus, Neeson was unapologetic about not liking no-muffin joggers, so he’s definitely worth supporting.
