Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants In Manhattan Locked At 30fps On PC

Platinum Games and Activision’s multiplayer beat-’em-up for home consoles and PC, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, launched recently to a chorus of mostly middling critical responses. The PC version takes a larger brunt of the burden from the realization that the game is not running at the promised 60 frames per second, but is actually locked at only 30fps.

The issue about the frame-rate is made loud and clear in the user review section of Mutants in Manhattan over on the Steam page.

One user, BuddyLuv324, noted that the game was pretty much false advertisement considering that gamers expected 60fps but ended up with only 30fps, writing…

“For people who were waiting on a good TMNT game to come out, this isnt going to be the one. I would even say that the game is guilty of false advertisement with Platinum Games’ claim of skipping the local-coop in order to get the 60FPS target. However, that’s the least of this game’s issues. While there are a few good ideas going of it, TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan not only feels rushed with little to no thought into its gameplay, but also manages to run unompimized making this game run worse than Korra.”

The complaints about the frame-lock was not unfounded. Digital Foundry did a video that practically warns gamers away from Platinum’s port of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants In Manhattan on PC and console by showcasing how the game not only runs at 30fps on PC but also runs at 30fps on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well.

Digital Foundry opted to pose the question that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants In Manhattan could be Platinum Games’ worst game to date.

Others reiterated similar sentiments about the poor optimization and the locked frame-rates. It’s an issue that has brought the rating for the game on Steam down to “Mixed” after 122 reviews were filed in, as of the writing of this article.

One user – standing opposite of those who were unimpressed with the locked frame-rates – argued against the naysayers. Xldcreflexlx wrote…

“I have no idea why people are saying this game is bad because it’s 30fps you people are acting like children please stop letting your master race side get in the way of a really fun and great game. Also people complaining about the game being repetitious it’s a beat um up for christ sakes have you ever played one before ?”

Many users took xldcreflexlx to task given that the developers said to have forfeited split-screen local co-op because it would have disrupted the 60fps standard… even though the game only runs at 30fps.

As a forewarning to anyone thinking about picking up a copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan for PC, you’ll be playing the game with the same limitations as the seventh gen consoles. So keep that in mind.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan is available right now for $40 on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and PC.
