E3 2016: Vampyr’s New Trailer Shows Bloodsucking And Moral Choices

Set during the era of World War 1, developer Dontnod has revealed that players in Vampyr will be assuming the role of Doctor Jonathan Reid who is cursed with the ability to take away lives with a midnight bloodlust, and can heal others with the knowledge of being a Doctor. The game is noted to explore the realm of Reid’s complex while adding an RPG system that affects the player’s journey in finding a cure to the curse plaguing London. Vampyr will be due out sometime during 2017 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

It’s nice to see more games surrounding the WW1 era of 1914-1918, which in this case players will eventually be able to play as Doctor Jonathan Reid who is a veteran of the war. The game is noted to explore the conundrum of a Doctor who can help save lives while dealing with a curse of being a vampire, meaning that he needs to suck blood and take lives to survive.

Hearing that the game will feature RPG elements that will help players search for a cure for his bloodsucking curse seems like a very interesting concept, which from the sounds of it, players might be able to find a cure quickly without involving others, or through a lot of bloodshed that eventually rids the city of the disease.

Before jumping into the trailer, the level system plays on the story of either finding a cure, or succumbing to his bloodlust by gaining experience points by killing innocent people. Players will also have to weigh out the situation by deciding who should be sacrificed and who should live to understand how to cure the plaguing disease.

I think that the dichotomy of the two will add a nice playthrough gameplay and story wise, since you’re actions will affect your surroundings and others. With that said, the video showing Vampyr’s E3 trailer can be seen below, which runs close to two minutes.

Lastly, the game is said to hold consequences that will affect others no matter how big or small the event plays out. This means NPCs around you and others will react with noteworthy actions, as described below.

“A merchant’s wife could be killed and he could decide to close shop and leave town. Every life you take away will have consequences for the city and the people around them: Cursed be the choice!”

If you’re looking for a vampire game that doesn’t suck, Vampyr will be due out sometime during 2017 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
