Heathen is a first person adventure shooter game, made using the CryEngine and developed by the indie team at Frog Factory.
Heathen follows the story of H.G. Wells book The Island Of Doctor Moreau, about a mad scientist that experimented on man and beasts to create an island filled with strange and twisted creatures, and you will play as one of these creatures trapped on the island. A game that really continues the story of H.G. Wells’ The Island Of Doctor Moreau and follows its rules? Consider me intrigued! Part of the official description describes your role as follows:
This is where your story begins: you are one of those “beasts”. Your task will be long and difficult: Explore, develop, understand and reclaim the island, while respecting the law of Moreau:
“Not to go on all-fours; that is the Law. Are we not Men?
“Not to suck up Drink; that is the Law. Are we not Men?
“Not to eat Fish or Flesh; that is the Law. Are we not Men?
“Not to claw the Bark of Trees; that is the Law. Are we not Men?
“Not to chase other Men; that is the Law. Are we not Men?”
Gameplay wise, Heathen reminds me a lot of the Far Cry game series in both combat and the aesthetic sense that you are half-man, half-beast, with the abilities and gifts of both species to utilize your talents to take out enemies and navigate the area. The graphics look rather nice for an indie game. The developers released a trailer that showcases a bit of the story and gameplay elements, so I linked it down below so you can see for yourself.
Heathen looks like it could be a pretty cool FPS horror game, but for now the developers are working on getting their game onto Steam. Heathen will be an episodic game released in chapters, similar to how developers Telltale releases their games in parts. The first chapter will be released sometime in 2017.
