Halo Wars 2 Cinematic Trailer Shows The Spartans In Peril

Blur Studios had a small taste of a few snippets of CG from the upcoming Halo Wars 2 spill out into the general public, giving gamers a look at just over a minute’s worth of cinematics from the real-time strategy game.

YouTuber IZUNIY posted up the video of the minute and 10 second long cinematic collage, which originally aired during a Twitch stream. You can check out the video below.

One of the more interesting aspects of the clip is the Spartan squad going into those caves and encountering rather unrelenting Brute forces. I’m not entirely sure what happens in that sequence but it looks as if a Spartan is hit dead on with that plasma-arc on whatever kind of weapon that is and is either slashed in a deadly way across the chest, or loses an arm… it’s hard to tell because it zips by rather quickly.

The escalation of the fight showing the Spartans retreating and manning the turrets on the Warthog is pretty cool, along with the Banished forces emerging atop the hillside in scarily large numbers.

The original Halo Wars had some awesome cinematic sequences and an equally compelling story, so we’ll see if Creative Assembly and 343 Industries can top what Ensemble Studios and Blur Studios managed to churn out with the original game.

Gameplay wise, we actually haven’t seen a whole lot, but Microsoft and 343 are holding closed beta tests to iron out the kinks and get feedback so they can put together a solid RTS come next year.

I’m not a big RTS fan so the only thing I’m interested in is how the story will play out and what they’ll do with the Brute deserter Atriox, a formidable war veteran who leads the Banished. I sure hope he doesn’t die in a stupid way. If he’s done right it would be cool to see the lore of his character expanded upon in other entries of the Halo franchise. We all know they could definitely use some help following on that travesty that was Halo 5.

You can look for Halo Wars 2 to go live starting February 21st, 2017 for Windows 10 and Xbox One. For more info feel free to visit the official website.
