Death Road To Canada Now Available, Features Up To 500 Zombies On Screen At Once

Rocketcat Games’ pixelated road trip adventure survival game, Death Road To Canada, recently launched on Steam and is currently available for purchase right now. The game features a completely randomized adventure designed around the prospect of replayability.

I love the initial description for the game on the store page, where Rocketcat Games describes the title as such…

“Death Road to Canada is a Randomly Generated Road Trip Simulator. You control and manage a car full of jerks as they explore cities, recruit weird people, argue with each other, and face gigantic swarms of slow zombies.”

A road trip simulator? See, these are the kind of games we don’t get enough of. Jalopy was another one of those games where it was based around being a road trip simulator, which was pretty cool. There just aren’t many titles out there where they focus on traveling, meeting people and traveling some more.

In the case of Death Road To Canada, players are encouraged to create lots of different characters so that they’ll appear randomly throughout the game, some will join you while others will be fodder for the zombies. Oh, and did I happen to mention that up to 500 zombies can be on the screen at once? Well, they can and it’s exemplified with no shortchange on the imagery with the launch trailer below.

But that video doesn’t even cover half of what you can actually do in the game. It’s a little bit like Half-Minute Hero meets Flesh Feast with a dash of a Choose Your Own Adventure title.

There are interactive fiction events sprinkled throughout the game as you make choices that will affect the entire party and determine who lives and who dies. Some of these choices are absolutely ridiculous and completely absurd, while others are based around whether or not you stop to save people or attempt to replenish the gas in the car at a lot that’s overrun with a zombie horde. The game mixes a bit of the Earthbound-style humor with the danger and persistent tension of a rogue-like. Check out the gameplay video below to get an idea of what some of the gameplay is like.

The dog with the shotgun… that’s just crazy.

Also I love the varied selection of vehicles you can commandeer in the game. The zombies flooding the cars reminds me a lot of Zak Synder’s Dawn of the Dead remake from 2004.

If you want to get in on the action right now and start playing Death Road To Canada you can do so for the price of $14.99. For the first week of being on Steam it’s discounted by 10% off. Oh yeah, and the game supports two-player local split-screen, so there’s a little extra incentive for you. You can grab a copy from the Steam store or hit up the game’s official website for a bit more info.
