There’s a new game that looks promising, but could end up being like any other abandoned indie project, it’s called Of Kings And Men. Published by Green Man Gaming Publishing, and developed by indie devs Donkey Crew, Of Kings And Men is set to hit PC via Steam Early Access this August.
Of Kings And Men has a lot of people saying that its overall concept reminds them of TaleWorlds Entertainment’s Mount and Blade games, which I do have to say that the game does hold some similarities. Taking place during the 13th century with both European and Eastern influences, the player will experience a vast opportunity of player-driven choices throughout.
The medieval game is also an MMORPG that mixes in a persistent world for players to claim. This means building a fort, or castle can be done by AIs and players, while being susceptible of other players’ dominance.
Construction, exploration and fighting will be common, along with trading. Looking deeper into the construction function, which plays a pivotal roll in the game, swords, axes, maces, polearms, lances, spears, bows, and crossbows can be crafted, as well as bought.
Speaking of weapons, there are no pre-defined classes. This means you can use any weapon and/or armor-set that fits your play style, while shaping your own unique warrior.
Before jumping into the videos below, I think it’s worth reading the game’s description just to get a better understanding on Of Kings And Men:
“Of Kings And Men is an independently developed, third-person multiplayer “Persistent Medieval War” game.”
“Of Kings And Men allows you to experience huge, player-driven battles like no other. Engage in massive combat with more than 200 players, capture territories, or practice your fighting skills in competitive matches with intuitive melee combat.”
The Teaser and the Announcement trailers can be seen below, thanks to Green Man Gaming‘s YouTube channel, which shows an ample amount of the game. However, they don’t show the game’s combat system, but they do briefly touch on some of the basic mechanics.
