Steep’s GamesCom Trailer Snowboards, Glides And Skis Down The Slopes

Ubisoft was on a promotional tear at this year’s GamesCom. They were a publisher with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove at this year’s event in Cologne, Germany. They unleashed a barrage of content for their upcoming games, including the new IP that they announced at this year’s E3, Steep.

With a release set for December 2nd, 2016, Ubisoft will have to work extra hard to get people enticed into checking out Steep. It also doesn’t help that professional skier Maltida Rapaport lost her life promoting the game when an avalanche hit. But on the brighter side of things, Ubisoft’s new trailer put a prime-time focus on both the single-player and multiplayer aspects of the game. You can check it out below.

Steep looks surprisingly solid in the trailer. We get to see some standard downhill snowboarding, some close-proximity wingsuit gliding, as well as some skiing through some wooded areas.

The one part that interested me the most was the segregated, sectioned off pipes that were lined up down the mountain. It looked like it would be a pretty cool race segment to go through on the skis or on a snowboard. The clip briefly showed a wingsuit lightly dipping into and out of the elevated half-pipe section.

One thing we’ve yet to see if there are any mountain ranges specifically designed for the wingsuits to race through while dodging rocky edges and avoiding certain death. It seems like a game that would be perfectly suited for such a racing segment.

The trailer also heavily relies on the “if you can see it, you can go there” gimmick that has become a standard in many upcoming open-world games. The only difference here is that if you can travel there in Steep it unlocks a new race for you to conquer, either solo or against other players online, which is pretty cool.

You can learn more about the game, which his due to drop on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, by visiting the official Steep website.
