Obduction, Spiritual Successor To Myst Is Now Available

Cyan’s Obduction has officially launched. The Kickstarted spiritual successor and revival of the Myst and Riven-style puzzle-solving genre has become available for PC games on Steam.

The independently made and crowd-funded game is currently going for the digital sales price of $29.99.

The game sees players in the role of an abducted human, taken out of their home and brought to an alien world all the way across the universe. Players will end up having to explore the foreign world of Hunrath, soaking in the beautiful sights while solving puzzles along the way.

According to the game description, players will traverse through a seemingly ghost town along with other areas where secrets are to be uncovered and the truth behind the abduction is sought to be revealed. You can check out the trailer below to get a sound understanding of what the game is like and what Cyan wanted to accomplish with the visual construction of the game.

This is one of the few trailers where the developers warn that it may contain spoilers.

Regardless, the trailer features nothing concrete to really spoil much of anything. However, it does reveal exactly what the store page says about the game: that you were abducted and must explore the alien world while solving puzzles along the way.

The world was created using Epic’s Unreal Engine 4, and for those of you with a powerful enough rig and the disposal income, you can see Hunrath in all its virtual glory courtesy of VR support for the Oculus Rift.

The reviews from users are already starting to pile in and they’re mostly all positive. So Cyan is off to a good start… so far.
