Yooka-Laylee may not be out yet and is still a ways off from release for the Xbox One, PS4, Wii U and PC, but Team17 and Yacht Club Games announced that they have a special surprise for gamers: You will be able to encounter the Shovel Knight from the game Shovel Knight in Yooka-Laylee.
Playtonic explained that Yacht Club Games modeled and rendered up a full 3D version of the blue-armored, horned-helmet Shovel Knight. After completing the model they sent the asset over to Playtonic where the Shovel Knight was rigged with a bone structure and animated for use within Yooka-Laylee.
Well, the modeling is done, the rigging is finished and the animation work is complete. Shovel Knight is ready to take the 3D platforming world by storm in Yooka-Laylee and you can get your first look at him in the near-two minute trailer below.
The trailer starts by going through the various cast of characters in the game and the wacky personalities that players will encounter throughout the adventure. After spending a minute or so going through the basic and familiar faces, they eventually get to the special guest star… Shovel Knight.
He’s looking beefy and buff like he juiced up just before landing in the game the same way Brock Lesnar juiced up before his fight with Mark Hunt.
According to the press release, it doesn’t sound like you will be able to play as Shovel Knight in the game, but you will likely encounter him on a few occasions throughout the adventure.
It would be a huge waste if he didn’t do some shoveling at some point, so maybe we’ll get to see him do his iconic digging to help out the platforming duo.
Shovel Knight is out and about right now for home consoles and PC, and you can expect to see Yooka-Laylee made available for home consoles and PC starting in spring of 2017 next year. For more info be sure to visit the official website.
