Looking back in early October, to be specific October 6th, publisher 3D Realms and developer Interceptor Entertainment managed to get their game Rad Rodgers through Kickstarter. As of now the two have their game up on Steam Early Access’ Coming Soon page, which means the PC game is shaping up to come out near the end of this year or sometime early next year.
Rad Rodgers is said to be a throwback to 1990’s PC platformer games, which includes Commander Keen (unless you like killing him in Doom), Conker, Jazz Jackrabbit and so on. This is literally noted in the game’s descriptions…
“Bringing back the 90’s-era PC platformer with a game inspired by classics like Commander Keen, Conker, Ruff’n’Tumble & Jazz Jackrabbit.”
I don’t know why, but for some reason, when I was watching the trailer for Rad Rodgers I was getting some Heart of Darkness vibes. I know the two games don’t share much in common aside from a boy platforming and shooting creatures in a strange world, which in my opinion isn’t a bad thing, but the vibes were still there.
Getting back on to the actual game, Rad (the character players will be assuming) is a rambunctious kid who enjoys playing hours of video games. This kid is accompanied by a sidekick named Dusty, who is a foul-mouthed, now-sentient gaming console. His clock speed isn’t up to par anymore, and what he doesn’t boast in “megahertz” he makes up for in attitude.
Rad and Dusty are sucked up into an electrified Pixelverse that is a dangerous spacetime region, which exists behind the game world. The two must fix game-breaking glitches that reside in the realm of Pixelverse before everything becomes unstable. This is shown in the Reveal Trailer below.
Rad Rodgers will contain classic Easter eggs and hard to find collectibles in even harder to reach secret rooms. This means exploration will play a part if you are a completionist and like to collect everything in a game.
