Uncharted 4: Survival Co-op Mode Will Arrive In December

Naughty Dog game designer Vinit Agarwal took to the PlayStation Blog to talk about a new survival mode for Uncharted 4. The multiplayer mode is a co-op feature for up to three players, as they battle through 50 waves of enemies across 10 different maps.

Agarwal explains that this is going to be familiar territory for PS3 gamers who got a taste of the co-op action in Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3, writing…

“If you played Co-Op Arena from Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3, you’re going to feel right at home in Survival. We’ve built upon and evolved the core gameplay experience with an entirely new level of depth, challenge, and variety. From new enemy types and powerful new bosses to a dedicated progression system and expansive upgradable arsenal, Survival is all about strategy, camaraderie, and skill.”

You can sneak a peek at the new mode in the video trailer below.

As the video reveals, the new Survival co-op mode is set to arrive in December next month. It will see players take on waves of enemies with a boss at the end of the tenth wave of each round. It’s not just basic survival, though.

Naughty Dog took the Horde Mode concept and switched it up a bit. Some of the modifiers and challenges will randomize, so you may have to collect treasure in one round or defend a certain area in the next. They also have it setup where some enemies might get stronger, other times you might only be able to progress after taking out foes using headshots.

It’s a buffet of hameplay diversity, and boredom isn’t on the menu.

What’s more is that you can also play this mode either solo or with two other friends. So if you’re a lonely SOB you can still enjoy this new mode for Uncharted 4.

There’s an all new progression system that they’re introducing into the survival mode as well, including one for Relic Challenges and loadouts. You can also upgrade your weapons and unlock exclusive boosters only found in the Survival mode.

If you think this is a lazy tack-on, think again. Naughty Dog has designed the survival system to scale with the growth of the player, so the longer you play and the better you get the harder and more challenging the enemies become, effectively giving it endless amounts of replayability… in theory.

You can first get your hands on the new Uncharted 4 Survival mode at this year’s PlayStation Experience. After that you can look for it to arrive in the December update for PlayStation 4 owners.
