Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Demo Download Available On Steam

Capcom held to their promise and released the first hour of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard as a playable demo for PC gamers over on Steam.

The free demo is already receiving positive review scores from gamers as it takes them through the early goings of the horror-filled mansion of the Baker family. Sporting photogrammetry, 3D scanned environments and graphics rendered through the new RE Engine, Resident Evil 7 is like a complete reboot of the Resident Evil series, giving gamers something completely new to experience.

The demo description keeps it simple, mentioning that players will wake up on the floor of an abandoned farmhouse and must make their way outside. They have a trailer up on the page to give gamers a small taste of what they can expect, which you can view below.

The demo makes no mention of VR support in the system requirements. They mention that the specs are subject to change, but you’ll need an i5-4460 at the minimum running 2.70ghz, 8GB of RAM and an Nvidia GTX 760 or AMD Radeon R7 260x in order to run the game at 1080p and 30fps. They support all Windows OS from 7 up to 10.

Of course, those specs aren’t quite good enough to run a game in VR. They do mention that to run the game at 1080p and 60fps you will need an i7 3770 at 3.4ghz and a GPU with at least 4GB of VRAM.

Capcom has mentioned in the past that they would support the PlayStation VR and so I do wonder if they will have native support for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive as well at launch? The PSVR demos at E3 didn’t entirely go over so well due to frame-rate issues and a lack of optimization, but running at high-end resolutions on PC with the specs turned up high should be a real horror treat.

The demo can be downloaded right now from over on the Steam store.
