If you wanted to watch the Gravity Rush 2 anime called “Overture”, both Part A and Part B are available right now for your viewing pleasure.
Sony Japan Studio released the two part anime feature on the PlayStation Europe YouTube channel. It features Kat arriving in the port town to grab a bite to eat; only she doesn’t get to eat because some monsters hop down and disrupt the party. You can check out the full two part anime below. Also, you’ll need to turn on the closed caption, as they speak what sounds like a mix of Thai and French. So without subtitles you’ll be lost.
The first part is much more than a collage of fight scenes. Story is put well on the back burner.
Part B starts with Raven and Kat enjoying a meal after having defeated the monsters in town.
The duo end up heading off to a fortress after hearing a distress signal. The duo investigate some capsules at the fortress, where two end up facing off against two teleporting foes.
The anime directly highlights Kat and Raven’s special abilities that they can utilize in the actual game, so it’s less of a narrative tale and more of a marketing extension for the upcoming release of Gravity Rush 2 (or Gravity Daze 2 in Japan).
Studio Khara’s 20 minute feature is a precursor that bridges what happened between Gravity Rush and Gravity Rush 2.
The music is still as standout as ever. The upbeat, contemporary pop-jazz fits the theme of the game so well, and Kōhei Tanaka did a fantastic job of bringing a fresh, bright set of melodies to the table while keeping everything cohesive with the game. I wasn’t originally paying much attention to Gravity Rush 2 but the soundtrack and the game’s airy visuals are slowly starting to turn me over.
Anyway, you can look for Gravity Rush 2 to launch on January 20th for the PS4 in 2017.
