The Porsche 911 GT3 will be the first Porsche to join iRacing now that the exclusivity deal between Porsche and Electronic Arts has ended, which lasted for more than 15 years. The German manufacturer has been long sought after by many top name publishers and racing simulators out there, and now they’ll finally be able to receive some top billing in many racing titles, including making an appearance in the subscription-based, online racing sim, iRacing.
Team VVV caught wind of the news that originally went live on New Year’s Eve on December 31st, where a video about the announcement was posted up over on the official iRacing YouTube channel. The promo trailer was just under a minute and a half long, informing die-hard iRacing fans that the racing revered and legendary car manufacturer would be officially joining the line-up this January.
It looks like 2017 is already off to a great start for racing simulation fans.
Kevin Bobbitt, the director of marketing and communications for iRacing.com explained that the collaboration opens a lot of new partnership opportunities for how Porsche can be utilized within the game, saying…
“This is great news for iRacing and for the 65,000 iRacers around the world,” “Porsche’s success in sports car racing is without parallel, from Le Mans and the Nürburging to Daytona and Sebring. Porsche is the ideal partner for iRacing as we continue developing our sports car and endurance sim racing capabilities.”
The Porsche will be usable in a variety of different GT class race cups, and will also be featured in iRacing’s Le Mans.
iRacing is the premier e-sports league racing game that really took the online competitive community by storm. The seasonal races and weekly competitions are put together in expert fashion and really helped pave the way for e-sports in racing.
