Microsoft has gone back to giving gamers some quality titles with their Games With Gold program. I wasn’t initially thrilled with Xbox Live Gold, but the amount of free games they give away each month and the quality of the games have brought me to a point of begrudgingly admitting that I kind of like what Microsoft is doing with their Games With Gold program.
Over on the official Major Nelson blog, Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb rolled out details on the four free games for February, 2017 on Xbox One and Xbox 360. They include some real noteworthy gems, such as Slightly Mad Studios’ Project CARS and LucasArts’ Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
I know Star Wars: The Force Unleashed received plenty of criticisms for Starkiller killing the Star Wars lore, but it was still a solid third-person action adventure game. I just wish the writing had been more consistent and tied together in a more plausible way with the rest of the lore.
Anyway, you can get the indie title Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime for free throughout February, from the start of the month to the end of the month. That’s for the Xbox One. You can get Project CARS Digital Edition for free beginning February 16th through March 15th.
On the Xbox 360 side, Monkey Island 2: Special Edition will be available for free from February 1st to February 15th and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be free from February 16th up until February 28th.
Both of the Xbox 360 titles will be backwards compatible with the Xbox One, so if you missed out on those games when they originally came out you can add them to your Xbox one library. These deals get underway starting in February. Opposite of PlayStation 4 owners, Xbox owners actually seem to enjoy the games they get with Xbox Live Gold.
