Limited Run Games and Casual Bit Games announced that they have a Kickstarter running for Battle Princess Madelyn, a 16-bit inspired side-scroller that hearkens back to the days of Ghouls & Ghosts and Wonder Boy 3: The Dragon’s Trap.
The game is being designed with the Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One in mind, and will also launch on PC as well (assuming they can acquire enough funds to complete the project).
Creative director at Causal Bit Games, Christopher Obritsch, explained what the motivation was behind the title and what they hoped to achieve, mentioning in the press release…
“After what seems like an eternity, we’re finally ready to show the world Battle Princess Madelyn! We’ve been hard at work over the last few months refining our Pre-Alpha build in order to let our fans sample our game before they pledge on our Kickstarter.”
“We are also pleased to reveal that we have teamed up with Limited Run Games to offer some incredible physical rewards for supporting us on our crowdfunding journey and beyond. Play our Pre-Alpha and if you like it, please support our campaign!”
They released a three minute video detailing the gameplay and showcasing the exceptionally well done sprite work and animations in Battle Princess Madelyn.
You can check out the video below to see what the game looks like in action.
The game follows the young Princess Madelyn as a knight in training while she ventures around battling the undead with the help of her pet ghost dog, Fritzy.
It’s essentially the Ghost & Goblins or Ghouls & Ghosts for today’s generation of platforming aficionados.
The artwork looks good and the gameplay seems solid. They released a demo so people could get some hands on time with Battle Princess Madelyn, and YouTubers are already uploading their play experience with the title. You can check out a video below from YouTuber Jake F.
As of the writing of this article, Casual Bit Games has already accrued $30,000 of their $60,000 goal. They still have 28 days to go.
If all goes as planned, they’re aiming to get Battle Princess Madelyn up and out for home consoles and PC by early 2018, this includes the Xbox One, Wii U, PC, PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
