Sapu, Magical Horror Game Adds Some Spice To RPGs

Ende Games recently slapped Sapu onto Steam Greenlight. The game is a top-down survival shooter with horror elements. There’s a 45 second trailer that the developers released, featuring a look at the game’s magically dark themes and environments, as well as the game’s intense projectile based combat system.

You can check out the teaser trailer below, which was posted up over on the Steam Greenlight page.

The game puts players in the role of Sapu, a boy who wanted to be a dragon slayer, but lives out life peacefully with his family. One day while out collecting herbs for his parents, something mysterious and strange happens and Sapu never sees his family again.

Players will journey with Sapu as he begins to discover his powers and uncover his abilities to wield magic.

One of the things that separates Sapu from other games is that you can combine and upgrade your magic abilities by combining different elements and creating new magic attacks. You can then combine the attacks to create chain magic combos.

Another key difference between Sapu and other games is that sometimes running is an option.

A lot of times players are confronted with sizable enemies and overcome and it seems necessary to fight to the death, but in this case… you can run! It reminds me a little bit of Limbo and Dark Souls in that regard. This gives Sapu a far more intense and thrilling atmosphere as opposed to other titles where you just grind through and fight to the end.

I like the way the environments are structured and there’s a lot of passion put into the artwork. Whether or not this all translates into a full fledged, fun, RPG experience is a whole other matter.

The game is currently seeking votes over on Steam Greenlight at the moment. If enough people vote it through you can expect to see it on the Steam store soon enough.
