Widower’s Sky Is About A Father Trying To Protect His Son And Dog

Whaleo released a new trailer for their upcoming indie game, Widower’s Sky. It’s being presented as a “gorgeous” journey of a father, his son and their dog venturing through a strange world filled to the brim with unique visuals, uncanny vistas and imposing structures.

The trailer is only a minute long, but you can check it out below.

The voice over sounds like a deeper-voiced version of Morgan Freeman. For those of you who really dig that kind of voice over narration, you’re in luck because the voice over will be present in the full version of the game, which is awesome… because the right kind of narration can help elevate a game to that next level, similar to Bastion, Dear Esther or Patrick Stewart’s unforgettable performance in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

The game itself is pretty crazy looking. It actually reminds me of a mix of Rime, Journey and The Witness.

The colors are vibrant and the use of post-processing such as god-rays, sun spots and bloom really help give the world a feeling of presence and being.

Part of the game will see players attempting to care for their son in the strange world, keeping him fed, clothed, warm and alive while venturing about the strange land. The other part of the game is about exploration and platforming as players will attempt to find ways to survive and explore the planet. Another part of the game is about puzzle-solving, and overcoming obstacles in order to progress further through the map.

It reminds me a little bit of the recent game The Wild Eight but fused with something like Ico or The Last Guardian.

Visually Widower’s Sky looks fantastic. I have nothing but praise to shower on the project in regards to how the landscapes are designed and how much character the atmosphere has.

So far, a lot of other gamers seem to like what they see as well, and can’t wait to play it. If you think this is a great fit for Steam, you can upvote and favorite Widower’s Sky over on Steam Greenlight. No release date is set yet, but the game is expected to launch “soon”.
