Sonic Mania Video Gives Us A Taste Of Sonic And Tails With Sweet Act 2 Music

A new video popped up for Sonic Mania featuring a look at Green Hill Zone 2, this time with the added mix of cooperative play thanks to Sonic being accompanied throughout the level by Tails. As many of you know, in the original Genesis release of the first Sonic The Hedgehog, it was only a single-player game and Tails wasn’t present, so this adds a whole new dynamic to the remastered rendition of this classic 16-bit stage.

The video was taken from a Let’s Play session of Sonic Mania and posted up over on Sonic movies, a YouTube channel dedicated to the blue speedster. The video clocks in at just under four minutes, giving you a look at Pagodawest Games’ take on the old Genesis gem. Check it out below.

The stage is as typical Sonic fanfare. The stage looks great and the speed is right proper. It does seem like Sonic’s acceleration is just a tad on the slow side for getting up to speed, but maybe that was just the player walking slowly to get going as opposed to his actual acceleration.

We also get some slight interaction with Tails for the first time as well, showcasing that Tails can still grab a hold of Sonic and lift him up platforms to help him get to hard to reach places.

A lot of people are praising the OST and how good Act 2 sounds for Green Hill Zone. I have to admit that it was one of the things that absolutely stood out in the video. The more it went on the more the music just kept getting better and better and better. In fact, this is probably one of the rare games where the more you get stuck, and the better the music gets, you’re likely to just give up and listen to the music until the 10 minute timer runs out.

Anyway, Sonic Mania is due for release this summer for the Xbox One, PS4, PC and the Nintendo Switch. They delayed the game by a few months to fix it up right proper, so we’ll get to see what it looks and plays like on all platforms in just a couple of months’ time.
