Indie devs Theroyalskies latest game entry to Steam Greenlight draws inspiration from Starfox 64, and goes by the name of White Vanguard. The high-speed action space shooter graphically may fall short, but it seems that a lot of people like what the game has to offer gameplay wise, which is why White Vanguard is currently on Greenlight.
To be honest here, I feel like I’m split on White Vanguard. A part of me likes it but at the same time I feel like there is a part of the game that annoys me. However, there is one thing that I do like about the high-speed action space shooter, and it’s that it tries to bring back what Starfox 64 perfected: rail shooting fun.
Graphically the game may look nice to some, given that it sports a certain kind of voxel/low poly look, but to others it may come across as ugly. The real hitting point here is that the game is a stylized rail shooter set in space and explores vibes similar to that of Sega games back in the early 2000’s.
Anyway, enough of me rambling about the good and bad things from the outside looking in and on to what the game seeks to bring gamers come November 11th, 2017, which sits below through the official description:
“White Vanguard, a high speed dog fighting space shooter. Combing the combat mechanics of Starfox 64 and Ikaruga, experience a unique 3D bullet hell shooter. Weave through enemies, absorb lasers, unleash devastating missiles, and fight massive robotic bosses!”
As for the story of White Vanguard… it sees the Alliance outnumbering the player 100 to 1 and the named faction not leaving until they’ve wiped everyone out. The only way to counter such a brute move is to strap in to pilot the UVG-Dominion, the most technologically advanced space fighter jet, and lead a fleet of the best pilots across the front-lines against the Alliance to save Jupiter and its moons.
You can either vote for the game over on Steam Greenlight or you can learn more about the game by watching one of the latest video trailers showing in-game footage.
