Dontnod Entertainment and Focus Home Interactive’s Vampyr is an upcoming Gothic-horror, hack-and-slash, role-playing narrative-driven game set within the slums of a flu-stricken London, England, during 1918.
The game sees players taking on the role of Dr. Reid, a man of medicine who is also suffering from an addiction to blood due to a bad case of vampirism. The trailer plays up the macabre along with the dire situation some of the inhabits of the city face while attempting to avoid succumbing to death through disease or through the bite of the undead blood drinkers.
Dr. Reid will not only have to deal with making morally ambiguous decisions on who to kill to temporarily satiate his lusts for blood, but he’ll also have to take into account the hunters of the night who prowl the streets looking to behead and dismember the vampire menace. You can check out the artsy trailer below featuring Ida Maria’s “Devil”.
I kind of get the feeling they’ll be vying for views and a place in the memory pockets of gamers who will be pelted and bombarded with various passengers coming off the development studio hype train bearing gifts and glitter.
On the upside the trailer did garner three quarters of a million views already, nestling at 715,000 views over the course of a few days. So that’s pretty good news. Of course, in just under a day’s time Star Wars: Battlefront 2 managed to accrue 1.9 million views, so obviously there’s a pretty big difference in terms of which game has more hype muscle behind it.
I imagine things may start to dwindle even more for Vampyr once Microsoft’s E3 conference gets underway, followed by Bethesda, and Sony, and well… you get the drift.
Anyway, Vampyr is a pretty stark departure for Dontnod, who recently came off their SJW-laden Life is Strange. Their upcoming game sees players making the kind of decisions that would make SJWs shriek at the top of their text on Tumblr.
You can look for the game to launch on PC, PS4 and Xbox One starting this November.
