E3 2017: Shadow Of The Colossus Remake Coming In 2018

During Sony’s E3 press conference one of the games that a lot of people didn’t see coming was a remake of Shadow of Colossus. The game has been completely remade for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro, featuring all new HD graphics, upgraded resolution, and more dynamic animations and environments.

The remake is exactly the same as the old PS2 classic. The major difference is that graphically the game has seen a major overhaul.

You can check out the the trailer for the remade and revamped version of one of the best games that SIE Japan has ever made with the trailer below from MKIceandFire.

There’s nothing new here other than that Sony is dipping back into their old treasure trove of great IP that came out during the PS2 era in order to sell people old popular games with a new coat of paint.

It’s absolutely hilarious because Jim Ryan, the chief financial executive at Sony had said that people didn’t care about backwards compatibility, and yet here they are remaking one of the classic games from the PS2 era.

Apparently Ryan doesn’t really think backwards compatibility is bad, it’s just that they can better monetize older games by remaking or remastering some of them and selling them for $60 on newer hardware.

I wonder if this means we’ll see remakes every 10 years just so they have a steady revenue stream from people looking for a bit of a taste of nostalgia?

Anyway, if you have a decent PC and you still have your PS2 copy of Shadow of the Colossus you can play the game in 1080p and at 60fps. Alternatively, you can wait until 2018 and pick up the remake of the game for the PS4 and PS4 Pro for $60. No release date has been set yet, but I doubt they’ll release in early 2018 where it’ll be over-shadowed with the release of God of War.
