Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order announced that Cities: Skylines will receive a PlayStation 4 edition starting August 15th, 2017 in just a few month’s time.
The studios recently made the announcement that Cities: Skylines would be coming to the PlayStation 4 before the summer is out, and they did so with a announcement trailer showcasing what the game looks like running on Sony’s console hardware. You can check it out below.
Tantalus is helping with the port job so that the game runs as clean and as pristine as possible on Sony’s hardware.
The trailer does a fine job of basically showcasing all of the content that you will get in the home console rendition of the title. This includes the After Dark expansion pack, which features night time activities, buildings, and aesthetics that help expand the game world and give your city a bit of extra character.
Paradox explained in the press release that in addition to bundling in the After Dark Expansion, Tantalus has been working closely with them to chisel and refine the experience of Cities Skylines on the PlayStation 4 by making significant changes to the control scheme, UI and gameplay in order to make it more controller friendly.
I was curious how they were going to approach that, because city management games are all about timing just as much as they’re about keeping a finger on the pulse of your city’s growth. Controllers oftentimes become a bit cumbersome when trying to adapt to the fast moving requirements of strategically building up a city in real-time. Technically, the PlayStation Move controllers would have been perfect for a game like this, but they don’t mention anything about them being supported in the press release.
Nevertheless, all of the policies, districts, and infrastructure management from the PC version will make the leap over into the PS4 version. For more info be sure to head on over to the game’s official website.
