Arriving during the midst of Steam’s Summer Sale, NetEase’s Chinese MMORPG, Twilight Spirits Online, will make its debut in the West for Steam users starting June 29th… except it won’t have English language support at launch. So those of you planning on playing the game better pick up your Mandarin book or begin firing up your Babel Fish programs to help you get through the options menus and quests.
Running on the Nirvana Engine, Twilight Spirits features all the latest and greatest when it comes to graphics technology. Real-time dynamic shadows, advanced light shaders, self-shadows, and high-quality reflections are all included. The real catch for the game is in its dynamic combat system, where it utilizes a back and forth counter system where players will be able to read moves, counter and if done successfully they’re rewarded with a bullet-time effect where they can pull off a devastating attack.
If you are fast and reflexive enough, you can keep stacking dodge-crits in order to wear down and kill opponents with ease. They partially demonstrate how this works with the cinematic trailer that you can check out below.
It’s like it comes right out of 2006!
According to Two Credits, Twilight Spirits is a free-to-play MMO and the title will play out very similar to other instanced-based action-oriented MMOs such as Dragon Nest or Vindictus. If you were hoping for a more open-world type MMO adventure, similar to Age of Wushu, you’re looking up the wrong dress here, padre.
Two Credits also notes that while the game won’t be available in English at launch, the team is considering additional language support post-launch. So it’s not all bad.
