Ready Or Not Dev Video Reveals Tactical SWAT Gameplay, Weapon Handling

Some new gameplay video footage has surfaced for the tactical shooter, Ready or Not. The latest developer video covers some of the first-person gun models, a brief look at the shooting mechanics, and some of the stage traversal.

The video was recently posted up over on MathChief’s YouTube channel, and it was accompanied by a developer blog posted up over on the official Void Interactive website. You can check out the video below.

So first up, the gun handling isn’t bad but it’s still kind of stiff. The animations for the shooting and reloading look a little mannequin like, and it lacks the smoothness featured in games like Rainbow Six: Siege.

Obviously there’s going to be some differences in animation quality due to the fact that Ubisoft is a big ‘ole AAA publisher and Void Interactive is not.

Nevertheless, the developer blog compliments what you see in the video above, highlighting that they have a new Swiss Army UI, which conveniently compiles all of the necessary information you need regarding your position, weapon, and status centered around the reticule.

One of the things that they’re doing differently with Ready or Not is utilizing mesh-deformation for bullet decals instead of started parallax texture overlays, the latter of which is typically how most shooter games handle bullet impacts and environmental damage.

The game also sports dynamic physics-based ricocheting, custom patchwork for your logo on your team’s shoulder, and customizable optics for the weapons.

Ready or Not is considered as a spiritual successor to SWAT 4, and it’s not hard to see the similarities. The game is supposedly scheduled to release in 2018 on PC.

We do get to see from the video above that there will be non-lethal takedowns, so that at least answers the question regarding being able to storm a room and not kill everyone inside. You can keep track of development by visiting the official Void Interactive website.
