Sonic fans who adore the retro feel of Sonic the Hedgehog have yet another video to watch that takes a look at Sonic Mania’s special stages. The new game is set to release digitally across PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC on August 15th.
Sega has taken to its YouTube channel to show off one new semi-long segment featuring all of the special stages that will be in Sonic Mania. Additionally, if you happen to be a fan of the older titles in the ongoing Sonic series of games, you’ll notice that there is a lot of classic stages and segments to behold in the new video.
Moreover, Sega has announced that Bonus Stages and Time Attack cues will be a feature in Sonic Mania. Tagging along with the two featured content comes a text explaining the special stages via the new video’s “read more” description:
“Check out the first gameplay of the Special Stages, and the return of an old favorite for the Bonus Stages. Time Attack mode also adds a nice spin: the ability to reload the level at any time seamlessly!”

Joining the video footage comes the official description for Bonus Stages, Time Attack and Special Stages for Sonic Mania. You can read each of the three below:
- Bonus Stages – Players take control of Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles through a series of spherical worlds and must avoid red spheres while picking up blue spheres. Silver Medallions are awarded to players who complete the Bonus Stage, however upon achieving a perfect score will grant a Gold Medallion.
- Time Attack – Prove you’re the fasts by finding the quickest routes around a stage to be the best of the best in Time Attack. This very mode lets you compete for the fasts speed in the world by recording your time in the game’s online leaderboard.
- Special Stages – Players must chase down an enemy UFO to secure various Chaos Emeralds. Collecting blue spheres along the way will give an added boost of speed in an attempt to catch the unidentified flying object.
Sonic Mania is set to release digitally across PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC on August 15th.
