The isometric turn-based RPG from Paradox Interactive and Harebrained Schemes has been pushed back and scheduled to release in early 2018. Battletech, the highly anticipated title that was Kickstarted back in September of 2015 to the sweet, sweet tune of $2.7 million, won’t be making the 2017 holiday rush.
The news comes courtesy of an update over on the Kickstarter page, where Harebrained Schemes announced that due to the stretch goals allowing for more content to be added to the game, and since it featured a larger team, it required more development time to finish those features.
This comes in response to diehard fans who repeatedly reinforced to Harebrained “don’t rush it, just make it great”. So Harebrained Schemes is intent on making turn-based mech games great again.
It’s not all bad news, though. They plan on releasing a new skirmish beta update for backers, and updated quite a few components of the game, including weapon balance, morale, evasion moves and sensor locks getting major revisions, criticals being made more frequent and powerful, a new update for the AI that makes them more challenging and tactical, along with more options and settings in the menu to customize your keyboard layout and shortcuts.
If you want to see what sort of progress that Harebrained Schemes have made with Battletech so far, there’s a video from Youtuber MoltenMetal featuring the latest beta release, and some of the content that you can expect to see in the full version. Check it out below.
If you were a fan of Harebrained’s Shadowrun games, then you’ll likely enjoy the kind of turned-based gameplay mechanics present in the upcoming mech title.
A lot of Battletech and Mechwarrior fans are quite excited about the release of the upcoming title, and it’s one of the few recent Kickstarter projects that actually managed over $2.5 million in funding, a rarity these days as the Kickstarter bubble continues to deflate.
