Sega and Creative Assembly released a new trailer for Total War: Warhammer 2 focusing on the game’s latest race, the Skaven. We get a two and a half minute trailer covering the characters and what role they’ll play in the game.
You can check out the trailer below.
As is usual with most of the trailers that Creative Assembly have been pumping out, it’s all running in-engine.
The trailer starts on a dark and stormy night, with a collection of shots showing the lizards versus the vampires versus the Skaven.
The trailer is pretty epic, and the rat units look… ratty.
Obviously, an in-engine cinematic does little to convey confidence in the actual gameplay and how these units will operate on the battlefield in real-time. Thankfully, Eurogamer posted up 26 minutes worth of gameplay footage featuring the Skaven, which you can check out below.
Al Bickham, the creative lead from Creative Assembly, walks gamers through the Skaven gameplay demo, which includes the intro cinematic for their campaign.
It’s a shame that we still haven’t received a proper movie based on the Warhammer franchise.
Anyway, after the near four minute intro, they demonstrate how you can survey the whole map by scrolling up and checking the whole battle map. You can also see the magical chaos vortex controlled by the elves that the rat-kind are attempting to get to.
They look over the four Rites of the Skaven, including the two special units, such as the Doom! Engineer and the Pestilence Scheme Priest.
They eventually get into the actual game, where they showcase how the rats utilize a bunch of meat shields to tie up the enemies so that the more specialist units can get in there and flay some flesh.
We begin to see how the Skaven can very quickly disrupt units using things such as the clan rats, which can burrow up from the ground and disrupt long range units.
Total War: Warhammer 2 is scheduled to release on PC starting September 28th, 2017 next month.
