Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Starfighter Assault Features Multiple Objectives Per Map

Electronic Arts and DICE revealed close to 10 minutes worth of gameplay for Star Wars: Battlefront 2’s Starfighter Assault Mode. The gameplay video was posted up over on IGN’s YouTube channel, sporting some of the footage captured that was on display at this year’s GamesCom 2017 event in Cologne, Germany.

If you were interested in seeing what the new mode is like, you can check out the video below.

The Starfighter Assault mode takes place over the course of a series of objectives.

For the Rebels, they have to first take out the Imperial defenses. There are Y-Wings, A-Wings and X-Wings in action on the Rebel side, and Tie Bombers and Tie Fighters on the Imperial side.

After taking out the defensive turrets and Imperial interceptors, the Rebels have to get inside the Imperial star station and blow up the shield generators.

Halfway through the video we finally see the hero and villain ships, including Darth Maul’s Scimitar,
Poe Dameron’s Black One X-Wing, and Boba Fett Slave I.

Each of the hero ships will have their own special abilities, including Darth Maul’s Scimitar being able to go into stealth mode, Boba Fett being able to use a seismic charge, and the Millennium Falcon having extra shields and firepower.

During the third phase of the Assault mission, they have to decouple the Star Destroyer and finish the mission by destroying the reactor. If you do not act fast enough, the couplings will reengage and you’ll have to repeat that step of the mission again in order to destroy the reactor.

We don’t get to see many of the Imperial ships other than the Tie Bomber, Tie Fighter and the hero/villain ships. In the older games there were Tie Interceptors available as well. Unfortunately DICE has been stingy when it comes to diving into the well of Imperial starfighters… but knowing EA they’ll make them available as DLC or as specialty items in the cash shop.

We do learn that there will be AI-controlled ships such as the Corvettes that will provide additional support fire for their respective teams, similar to Pandemic’s Space Battles in Star Wars: Battlefront 2 on the PC, PS2 and OG Xbox.

DICE’s Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is due for release on November 17th, 2017 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
