Yakuza Kiwami Now Available On PS4 In North America, Europe

Sega announced that the HD remake of the original Yakuza is now available on the PlayStation 4 as Yakuza Kiwami in the West. The game features enhanced visuals, upgraded audio, and a way for gamers to become reintroduced to the story surrounding Kiryu ahead of Yakuza 6’s release in North America and Europe.

The game retells the story of how Kazuma Kiryu makes a life-defining choice and ends up going to prison for murder. Things get worse for him when he comes out of prison a decade later, only to find that his childhood fling has disappeared, he gets caught up in helping an orphan named Haruka, and he has to deal with the very unfortunate reality of his clan having their ¥10 billion treasury go missing. Not that matters too much to him since they kicked him out while he was in prison.

You can get a taste of what this remake looks like with the half-minute launch trailer below.

I’m thoroughly impressed with how they managed to squeeze all of the important parts of the gameplay into a 30 second trailer without spoiling everything.

They do cover some of Japan’s night life, including gambling, playing pool at the halls after hours, trying to pick up chicks at hostess clubs, dining out to replenish your manliness, and beating the crap out of gangster thugs using a wide array of environmental objects and weaponry.

Not everything is just remade, however. They’ve also added some extra features to the game, including the “Majima Everywhere” system, where the one-eyed maniac will pop up all over the city and Kiryu must face him in combat whenever he rears his head.

Sega also made it so that the game runs clean and pristine at native 1080p at 60 frames per second. So at least you’ll be able to play it at the equivalent high-end specs that PC gamers were enjoying a decade ago.
