Desolate is a Steam Early Access title that publisher HypeTrain Digital and developer Nearga are currently working on. The single-player game can be played with up to four players, and is set to hit PC via Early Access “soon”.
Are you a fan of single-player games? Do you also like games with a mysterious story where other people can join you? Desolate aims to bring an enigmatic experience wrapped in a horror-survival package.
“DESOLATE is a first person horror survival experience. Form a research team with up to 4 players and explore an open world filled with mysteries and unsolved questions, or do it all on your own.”
The island of Granichny holds all sorts of mysteries and dangers, prompting you to take care of your physical needs. Your mental state will be tested too, where your sanity while on Granichny will change depending on your experiences while on the island.
The typical act of scavenging and crafting stuff, like in many indie survival games, will stand as a means to combat going insane. In addition, items and clues to solving the mystery of Granichny can be furthered by exploring abandoned settlements, military bases and top secret facilities.
If all of that sounds like fun, you can watch the official gameplay trailer of Desolate below.
To put things into perspective, the main story of Desolate sees a big campaign underway, which volunteers are sent out onto Granichny. Their mission is to research paranormal activities reported to be associated with the island, and gather factual information.
According to the devs there is a mysterious twist that none of the volunteers “are ready for”. If Desolate seems like an interesting project that you can get behind, more information can be found over on Steam Early Access.
Finally, no given PC release date has been set yet besides “coming soon”.
