Laser League, Futuristic Sports Game Enters Into Early Access On Steam

Roll7 and 505 Games announced that Laser League has finally entered into Early Access on Steam. It’s been a long time coming and a lot of alpha and beta tests later, you can now get your hands on a digital copy of the action-sports title for $14.99.

During the first week of being in Early Access you can grab a copy of the game for 30% off the normal price for only $10.49, which is a pretty darn good deal.

As for the game itself, Laser League is difficult to compartmentalize within a simple, snappy, tagline description. It looks like Tron but it’s a team-based game set within a variety of arenas where battle to control colored nodes. The nodes will allow you to extend walls that force your opponents into the walls. The objective is to derezz all your opponents on the opposing team. You can see what the gameplay is like with the trailer below.

In addition to activating and controlling nodes, there are also six playable classes each with their own abilities, such as offensive strikes and defensive measures. Each class is designed to fit a specific play-style, so there’s a bit of something for everyone.

The game supports up to eight players in local play where four players per team will duke it out in local party matches, where-as once you take the fight online you’ll have 2-vs-2 and 3-vs-3 multiplayer matches to choose from.

In total there are three different stadiums to travel to, including a stadium in London, U.K.; Tianjin, China; and Detroit, U.S.A. I’m not sure why they chose Detroit, because it’s only going to remind most people of the United States’ version of Afghanistan… just with more concrete.

Anyway, each of the three stadiums play host to multiplayer maps, four maps per stadium in fact. Each map has its own quirks, conditions and ins and outs that must be mastered.

In addition to the character classes, maps and modes, there are also 16 different power-ups to collect throughout a match that can drastically alter the way the matches play out. You can also unlock over 250 different character customizations in order to personalize your class to suit your very own style.

The plan is to get Laser League finished and out before the first quarter of 2018 rounds out, but we’ll see how well things go for the Early Access run.
