You may have missed it last week, but Bandai Namco Entertainment and Dimps released a trading card fighting game called Super Dragon Ball Heroes, which launched on April 5th, 2019 on Steam and for the Nintendo Switch for $59.99. It definitely flew under the radar and wasn’t really pushed to the forefront of the marketing endeavors by Bandai for whatever reason.
The game is a collectible card game that features 350 characters from the Dragon Ball franchise, enabling you to collect and battle against other opponents in single-player or online multiplayer bouts.
As you collect cards and power up your team you’ll be able to build up your power-level and attempt to overthrow your opponents.
The game sports thousands of different cards and items, allowing you to buff your team, rejuvenate their stamina, or reduce your opponent’s momentum.
The game sports both a card mission mode and a mission creation mode.
So far the feedback from gamers has been positive because they say that there are no microtransaction gacha elements, no pachinko-style power-ups, and no loot box-oriented buffs… for now.
The game kind of slipped onto the market for PC and Nintendo Switch like some sort of mobile port, but the price is anything but mobile-friendly. The $59.99 price tag is pretty hefty, but most gamers don’t seem to be complaining about it.
Anyway, this is probably Bandai’s attempt to test the water with more casual Dragon Ball games coming off the huge success of Dragon Ball FighterZ.
It will be interesting to see how the culture around Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission develops as it slowly builds up a community. I could also definitely see Bandai making the game free-to-play later on down the line.
You can pick up a digital copy from the Steam store for $59.99. The better deal is obviously on the Nintendo Switch, which offers local play and comes in a physical format for the exact same price! Alternatively you can also acquire the game digitally from the eShop if you’re not into owning a copy of the game.
